Gene Patrick Gilligan

Gene Patrick Gilligan was born into Asian and Irish ancestry destined to a life of yin-yang. His time on this earth ended on October 16, 2023.

Born in an agricultural community near a military base he learned a lot in those formative years. Especially how to take care of nature and one another. Those life experiences shaped him.

During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in Arizona and deployed to the Middle East.

Being a quiet, kind, generous, and giving spirit he helped many, typically with more than what was needed. There was always a space for anyone at his table, a true testament to Ohana - family.  Forgiveness is a quality he maintained.  Gene found a way to “be the duck” and let things roll off his back.

If you were fortunate to spend time with Gene, he would share his funny quips and tales. Making people laugh was a gift he shared without hesitation. He had a natural artistic talent, a love of music, and all of God’s creatures (except spiders and snakes).

With a curious and restless soul, he sometimes lived his life unconventionally and unapologetic. With his roaming spirit, he settled in the mountains of Northern California. It was there he made his way home under the guiding voice of prayers as he took his final breaths. True to his Irish, he was daring and fearless to the end.

Remember the good times; his infectious smirk, and various Confucius-type sayings.  Through the laughter and the tears the spirit of Gene will always be near to the people he loved and those who loved him.

At the right hand of God is his soul. Give him eternal peace, O Lord, and may everlasting light shine on him.

Go rest high up on the mountain. Son, your work on earth is done.
