Our mom was born June 15, 1931 in Los Angeles, California to John and Enid Gleason. She passed away unexpectedly in Eureka, California on August 14, 2017. This woman was full of wit, wisdom and laughter and had many friends as proof of that. She and her family lived in Oregon for many years where she met and married her first husband.
Her early married life found her living in the local communities of Westhaven, Maple Creek, and Blue Lake and in Port Angeles, Washington prior to returning to Humboldt County in the 1960's. After working for a now-defunct radio station, she began working for the state of California Alcohol Beverage Control where she remained for several years until she began working at Humboldt State University for the Chemistry and Physics Department.
At this time, she was offered a position as executive secretary to President Alistair McCrone which she happily held until her retirement. Her later years found her traveling throughout the U.S. as well as part of Europe, which she found to be rewarding and filled with fun and entertainment. After that she began cultivating many friendships which culminated in her beloved "poker group" and "Mahjongg girls."
She hosted both groups on a weekly basis for many years that were filled with a tremendous amount of joy and laughter. They will all miss her very much.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister Joy Young, her first husband George Winters, and her second husband Alba Gillespie. She leaves behind her children, Christine Johnson (Bruce), Thomas Winters (Marquita), Molly Brown (and special friend Ed), her grandson Nathan Winters, her nephew Ryan Young and her second husband Ernest McCartney.
A celebration of her life was held on August 18, 2017. We would like to thank Kate Vogelsang, her very special medical provider who worked countless hours with her; Dr. Michael Palmer, whom she adored; the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Hospital and the girls at CVS Pharmacy in Mckinleyville.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Humboldt Cremation & Funeral Service.
