George Arthur Palmer, III passed away on Christmas Day at St. Joseph Hospital with family members at his bedside. George was born in Eureka to George Arthur Palmer, Jr. and Dorothy Ruth Willingham on July 2, 1938. George's father passed away when he was six years old at which time his mother moved them to her sister's home in Santa Rosa. George subsequently lived for some time with family in Willits after which he was brought back to Humboldt County. When George was in his mid-teens, his mother married Frank Ernest Fulton, and they lived on a ranch in the Arcata Bottoms.

George attended Arcata High School and enjoyed duck hunting on the Bottoms and fishing in the Mad River. At age 17, George joined the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Ranger aircraft carrier - traveling to Japan and the Philippines.Upon discharge from the Navy, George settled in the Los Angeles area where he met and married Elaine Rindahl. They moved to Eureka in 1961 and had three sons. George and Elaine separated in 1975. In 1983, George married Karen Anderson. George worked in the truck parts business for many years in Eureka. He worked for Redwood Kenworth for 35 years and was the Store Manager for last 20 years of his career. George retired in 2002.

George immensely enjoyed camping in the mountains with Karen and even more so enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his oldest son George. In hunting camp, George was known as "the wishbone" to his hunting partners Roger Cox, Marlin Roger and his son George. In addition to his open fire barbecue cooking, George loved to sit around the camp fire telling stories, smoking his pipe, and having a "snort" of his favorite brandy. George is survived by his wife, Karen; his ex-wife, Elaine; his three sons, George Arthur Palmer, IV (Kari) of Fortuna, Stephen Michael Palmer of Santa Rosa, and Kevin Eugene Palmer (Cassandra) of Eureka; his five grandchildren, Kyle, Dalton, Holden, Eugene, and Shannon; and his faithful companion dog "Lady".
